Day Program Services

Adult Training Facility at Don Guanella Village

Adult Training Facility at Don Guanella Village emphasizes functional life skills, personal management, community involvement, and recreational/leisure activities. An interdisciplinary team gives individuals the opportunity to explore different experiences in all areas of their life. Some experiences include self-help, housekeeping/domestic, gross motor, fine motor, sensory stimulation, socialization, communication, and pre-vocational tasks. Each individual works toward goals to gain as much independence as possible. This program allows each person to have an active part in having a meaningful day.

Pre-vocational Room

The ATF gives individuals the opportunity to reach their greatest potential. We provide a program focusing on skills that may be used in a workshop setting. Although everyone at the ATF participates in activities such as sorting, packaging, functional life skills, photocopying, paper shredding, and can crushing, the men and women that partake in the PRE-VOC program enjoy them more frequently.

Community Connections

We provide many occasions for everyone to get involved in his or her community. Organizations such as local high schools and colleges, massage students, and pet therapy groups have come out and provided therapeutic activities for all to benefit. Each person also has the chance to go on a variety of outings. These are some outings in which we have thoroughly enjoyed: fishing, some private movie screenings, visits to a local Nursing Home, the Zoo, Linvilla Orchards, apple picking, Brandywine Battlefield, shopping and delivering shredded paper to a local packaging company.

Activities

The ATF employs a full-time position that focuses on only programming (activities). As well as community outings, everyone enjoys therapeutic art and music activities.

Socialization and Recreation Program

Community Employment Opportunity

The Community Employment Opportunity Program provided job placement and job coaching services for individuals with developmental disabilities to secure employment in the community. This person-centered program allows each individual to have an active part in obtaining a volunteer or competitive employment position within his/her community.

Employment Preparation Classes

In our Work Activity Center, we provide employment preparation classes where we concentrate on career interests, interviewing skills, work ethics, and success

Job Coaching
On-site training is a free service to the employer. Your company will train each new employee and Job Coach. After the initial training, the Job Coach will guide the new employee to ensure that she learns the work skills necessary to maintain her job. As the individuals begin to gain independence, the Job Coach will begin to fade out and provide less direct instruction to the individual. The job coach individualizes each person's job and length of the training sessions.

Follow Up

After the instruction by the Job Coach is complete, the Vocational Coordinator and Job Coach will call the employer or visit the job site monthly. The job coach maintains regular contact between the CEO program and the business throughout the duration of the employment. Job Coaches are available to provide retraining upon request.

Business Club

We offer continuous support to the individuals who have job or volunteer position in the community. Often an issue or a problem is on the minds of the residents. Meetings once a week is a successful way in working through any work related conflict.
