Our Mission

Divine Providence Village is committed to providing individuals with the opportunity to reach their fullest potential in spiritual, emotional, psycho-social and physical well being. We strive to support each person to live their lives with dignity and respect in a caring environment.

History

In 1881, Blessed Luigi Guanella founded a religious congregation, the Daughters of St. Mary of Providence, whose primary mission is to minister to persons with developmental disabilities. In 1913, the Sisters came to the United States, and in 1948 to Elverson, PA. There they started a home for young women with mental retardation on the old Pott's estate. In the castle they built dormitories for the residents and they renovated the stables and the servants' quarters into other residences.
Our residents moved into Divine Providence Village during September 1984, though construction had not yet been completed. It now includes not only the main campus, but also Community Living Arrangements, the Adult Training Facility, and the Work Activities Center.
