Don Guanella School

Admission

Don Guanella School is licensed by the Department of Public Welfare in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Both cottages are currently licensed to accommodate thirty-seven boys per cottage. Most referrals come from the Department of Human Services in Philadelphia, but Don Guanella opens its doors to any boy referred from the Offices of Mental Retardation throughout the five county area. As mentioned before, boys are admitted to Don Guanella School regardless of race, color creed, ethnic background or disability.

Volunteers Volunteers are always encouraged and welcomed to Don Guanella; they come from all over the community, especially from the local colleges and high schools. They help the boys in a whole host of ways as mentors, coaches, etc.; they also assist the boys in homework assignments, performing daily chores, arts and crafts as well as other campus activities.

Employment

Don Guanella School employs both full and part time employees. There is always a need for dedicated and caring individuals, people who will encourage the boys and leave a lasting, positive impression on them. The need is especially critical in the part time arena.

Don Guanella School is located on PA Route 320 (Sproul Road) in Springfield, Delaware County.

PA Turnpike - from New Jersey and Northeast

Take I-276 (Pennsylvania Turnpike) West (toward Harrisburg) to interchange 25A for I-476 (Chester and I-95). Follow I-476 to exit 4 (Newtown Square / Broomall). Follow directions below PA Turnpike - from Harrisburg.

PA Turnpike - from Harrisburg

Take I-276 (Pennsylvania Turnpike) East (toward New Jersey) to interchange 24 (Valley Forge). Take I-76 East to I-476 South (Chester). Follow I-476 two exits to exit 4 (Newtown Square / Broomall).
On exit bear to left. At light make left onto PA Route 3 (West Chester Pike). Immediately get into right lane. At 2nd light make right onto Lawrence Road. Lawrence Road ends at Sproul Road (PA Route 320). Make left. Follow through 2 lights; Don Guanella School is on left at top of hill.

From Interstate 95 - Northbound or Southbound

Take I-95 to I-476 North (Plymouth Meeting). Follow I-476 North to exit 3 (Lima / Springfield - US Route 1). Bear to right on exit and merge onto US Route 1 North. Keep to the right as you merge onto US Route 1 and take the PA Route 320 (Sproul Rd.) exit. Turn Left at the 2nd light onto PA Route 320 North (Sproul Rd.). Follow directions below From Center City Philadelphia.

From Center City Philadelphia

Take I-676 West to I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) West (Valley Forge). Take I-76 West to the US Route 1 South (City Ave) Exit. (exit is from the left lane). Follow US Route 1 South about 15 miles to PA Route 320 North (Sproul Rd.). Turn right on PA Route 320 North (Sproul Rd.) Continue past 2nd light (Cardinal O'Hara High School on right); Don Guanella School is on the right at top of the next hill. Enter into 1st driveway.

West Chester

PA Route 3 East (West Chester Pike) to PA Rt 320 South (Sproul Road). Follow past Lawrence Park Shopping Center (on left). Don Guanella School is on left at top of next hill.
